COMMUNICATION UPDATES
Welcome to the Great Owl. An epic race right here in Cincinnati. On this page you'll find all the race updates to get you ready for what's to come.
Update #1 || 02-01-2026
Race Update #1: Now that you're registered, it's time to get ready... Training: An upcoming race is one of the best motivations to stick with your fitness goals. Those hills are a lot easier to climb, on bike and on foot, when you've trained for it.  Spur on your teammates as you prepare together. Navigation: Get some nav practice in, individually and as a team.  In the 12-hour race especially there is a stage of orienteering that is going to be amazing and quite challenging due to the terrain and lack of marked trails.  Both races have at least three distinct on-foot orienteering sections, easy through difficult.  Practice some bike navigation as well just to dial it in.  Bonus: January is almost over, but check out our Geometry Challenge for a fun nav exercise. Bike:  Knock the dust off and tune your bike back into shape.  Adjust your map board, thaw out the water bottles, and air up those tires.  Each race has some decent kilometers to cover - a mix of paved road, off-road, and MTB. Paddling: The 12-hour racers will be paddling in two-person and three-person canoes.  March is unpredictable as far as temperature and water levels, so we'll plan accordingly.  As we like to say: don't fall in the water and your day will be much better. Surprises: Oh yeah!  We don't throw in dangerous feats or silly games.  We do add extra adventure and strategic teamwork challenges - you'll love it. Tell your friends! Please share this event with your friends who aren't signed up and tell them "you gotta do it!"  We've put together our best courses yet, so we want as many to experience them as possible.  That goes for experienced racers as well as first timers. Did you see...we have  T-shirts  this year... And we'll send out our famous Pre-Race Briefing Video and Communique about a week before the race... ONE LAST THING Just throwin' this out there:  If you are signed up for the 6-Hour Race and you are not a first-timer, we'd like to encourage you to upgrade to the 12-Hour race.  Because.  Just contact us and we'll make that happen. We're gonna get back to work.  See you all soon! - OWL Team
